ABOUT

As an experimental abstract artist, I am interested in the processes of painting: the layering, scraping and washing off of acrylic paint to produce unexpected images, the vestiges of past layers which become revealed, almost like archaeology.

My current practice has involved looking closely at the intriguing ceremonial Kuba Cloths from the Congo which are woven by the men from Raffia fibre, then embroidered by the women. Through painting and drawing, I want to capture some of the exciting, unpredictable or interrupted patterns which they contain. My paintings echo the broken motifs and patched surfaces.
